Levittown is its own kind of flooring job. The Levitt houses went up on a four-inch concrete slab with no basement, and most of them still have the original hot-water radiant lines cast into that slab. That rules out anything that gets nailed or drilled down, and it means the slab itself has to be checked for moisture before a plank goes near it. Floating, click-together LVP is the right product for exactly this house, which is why so much of our Levittown work is vinyl plank.
The other Levittown reality is the old floor: decades of asphalt or vinyl tile, patched slab, and additions that were poured at a slightly different height than the original house. We flatten those spots with self-leveler and patch, get the transitions between the original rooms and the addition to land clean, and lay the new floor so the whole house reads as one surface. Often, yes. If the old tile is bonded tight and the slab under it is flat, LVP floats over it after the low spots are filled and the high spots knocked down. Loose or crumbling tile comes up first. We tell you which one you have at the walkthrough, and if the tile is the old asphalt type we handle it accordingly.
It changes what we will not do: nothing gets nailed, screwed or drilled into a Levittown slab, because you can hit a line. Floating LVP needs none of that. If your radiant system is still running, LVP handles the warmth fine within the manufacturer limits; if it was abandoned years ago, it is just a slab.
That is one of the most common things we see in Levittown. The fix is usually a feathered self-leveling ramp so the two heights meet without a hump, and a transition strip only where the change is too big to blend. We plan it before the quote so it is not a surprise mid-job.
