Vinyl plank for Ewing bedrooms, hallways and first floors: subfloor screwed down and leveled, plank laid tight to new base. Just over the Scudder Falls Bridge from Fallsington.
Ewing is one bridge away from our base in Fallsington, and the houses are mostly post-war: capes, ranchers and split-levels from the 50s and 60s with framed floors on joists, plywood or plank subfloors and a basement underneath. That kind of floor has usually moved a little over sixty years. Before any plank goes down we screw the subfloor back to the joists where it squeaks, fill the low spots and flatten the high ones, so the finished floor is quiet and reads flat from the doorway.
The Ewing job in the photos below is the kind we do most here: bedrooms and the hallway that connects them, carpet out, subfloor prepped, a brown oak plank run the long way through each room and straight down the hall so the whole upstairs reads as one floor. New baseboard went on after the plank, which is why you can still see the painter’s tape in a couple of the shots.

04Subfloor leveling and repair before new flooring goes down, on stairs and every room.
A floor only looks as good as the subfloor underneath it. RJ Laminates checks and levels the subfloor before a single plank goes down, so seams stay tight and the finished floor holds up under daily use.

The questions Ewing homeowners ask about vinyl plank, answered the way we quote: straight.
Both. Fallsington is a few minutes from the Trenton bridges, so Ewing, Hamilton, Trenton and the rest of Mercer County are a normal job for us, not a special trip. We work about 50 miles out in both states.
Not by itself, and a floating floor over a squeaky subfloor just hides the noise for a while. We fix the cause first: screws through the subfloor into the joists wherever it moves, then leveling. After that the plank goes down on a floor that stays quiet.
Yes. Room-by-room is fine, and bedrooms plus the hall is one of the most common Ewing jobs. We plan where the plank meets the stairs or the bathroom tile so the transition lands clean rather than in the middle of a doorway.
